We Design Beirut Returns This October

It’s finally back—and this time, it’s bigger, bolder, and more meaningful than ever. From October 22 to 26, We Design Beirut returns for its second edition, transforming the city into a living, breathing gallery of craft, culture, and creative collaboration.

Born from a mission to celebrate Lebanon’s enduring design legacy and its power to heal, this year’s edition arrives 50 years after the country’s civil war began—a poignant reminder that creativity, even after decades of turmoil, remains one of Beirut’s strongest forms of resistance and rebirth.

At the heart of this year's program lies the revival of the Abroyan Factory, a 1930s textile mill once left to decay. Last year, students filled its empty halls. This year, it will hum with life again—as artisans and designers return to work from the factory itself, reawakening its spirit of making. Two exhibitions will anchor the space: 'Threads of Life' and 'Métiers d’Art'.

Threads of Life gathers Lebanon’s foremost textile masters—from Sarah’s Bag, known for its intricate crochet, to Salim Azzam, who collaborates with women embroiderers from his Druze village, and Bokja, whose installations weave memory into fabric. Together, they’ll create monumental textile works—meters long—that celebrate the delicacy, discipline, and emotion behind handmade art.
