Princesses carried bag by Lebanese designer: 'Recognition for our efforts'
The trend watchers saw it immediately yesterday: Princess Amalia came to Dokkum with a striking little bag. It was a gold clutch bag with parakeets from Sarah's Bag, a Lebanese designer who offers jobs to ex-prisoners and underprivileged women.
"I saw it on Instagram yesterday and I was proud and overjoyed that some positive news is finally coming from Lebanon," says Sarah Beydoun in her Beirut boutique. "We are going through unprecedentedly dark times here, and seeing two Dutch princesses with my handbags on such an important day gave me hope and strength."
For Princess Alexia was also carrying one of her bags yesterday: a red one with a chili pepper as a clasp. "Pepper is a symbol of prosperity, happiness, and fertility. We use this pepper frequently in our collections."
Amalia's bag is named 'the inseparable' because of the two little birds. "When we were young, we all had these kinds of parakeets at home. We called them love birds. And they are inseparable. That is why I use them on my bags."
